How Crimean Greeks celebrated Christmas

By 3 years ago

Few know that Greeks colonized the Crimean peninsula as far back as 2,600 years ago.

Although today the Greeks of the peninsula only number a few thousand, their legacy and connection to their Greek identity remains strong.

This year was no exception, with Pontian Greeks celebrating Christmas in a very typical way.

Adorned in traditional clothes and playing a lyra, the Pontian Greeks performed Christmas carols.

On Twitter, the Russian Embassy in Athens said:

"The Greeks of Crimean Russia celebrate Christmas. "Best wishes"!"
