Prince Charles, Macron and Putin to commemorate Greece's Bicentennial

Three world leaders are expected to attend Greece’s celebrations commemorating the 200th anniversary of the Greek Revolution of 1821, government sources told Kathimerini.

Invitations were sent to Prince Charles, heir apparent to the British throne, French President Emmanuel Macron and Russian President Vladimir Putin, to attend the military parade on March 25 in Athens.

Traditionally, the main streets of Athens are blocked and full of people gathered around to watch the grand military parade that features thousands of armed service personnel, with squadrons from all of the Hellenic Armed Forces, civil and military marching bands followed by a procession of military vehicles.

It is recalled last year’s commemorations were cancelled, as the country was facing the first wave of the covid-19 pandemic.

This year, the parade will be held in compliance with strict safety measures.

*UPDATE: Putin will not attend Greece’s Bicentennial celebration of independence from the Ottomans.
