Unvaccinated will have to live with more restrictions

The figures throughout the world and in Greece οverwhelmingly support vaccinations, [support that they] protect from serious illness and admission to an ICU, and [support that there is] a reduction in the spread of the virus," government spokesperson Aristotelia Peloni said on Tuesday in an interview with ANT1 TV. She also pointed out that "those who have not been vaccinated can transmit the virus, so vaccination is not only an issue of protection their own life but also an issue of public health, a matter of social responsibility".
It was now necessary, she added, to persuade even the most sceptical members of the population, those who might be waiting to first see the results of the vaccinations, to also make haste to get vaccinated, especially in light of the higher-risk Delta variant that was now gaining ground and appeared to be more infectious. The spokesperson also pointed out that the number of active Covid cases in Greece had risen by 75 pct in the last week.
Peloni said that 45 pct of the adult population in Greece have now fully completed their vaccination but she warned that "we must not let the summer pass by and we must not be complacent. We must intensify our efforts...the health risk for the vaccinated and the unvaccinated differs. It is that simple."
Summing up the government's strategy to promote vaccination, Peloni denied that the government was dividing the citizens: "We are trying to provide incentives and encourage the more skeptical. We are in a pandemic and whoever is not vaccinated will have to live with more restrictions".
