The bilateral relations between Greece and Israel are currently at one of their highest points and will continue to evolve, said Israel’s Ambassador to Greece Noam Katz, speaking at the Economist’s ‘The World Ahead 2023 Athens Gala Dinner’, held in Athens on Friday evening.
Greece and Israel are strategic partners, Katz pointed out.
In reference to tourism, the Israeli diplomat said that Greece is a tourist destination for thousands of Israelis, and mentioned his country’s investments in Greece’s tourism industry, worth more than half-million dollars, he added.
The Israeli ambassador made special reference to the possibilities of cooperation in the energy sector: “Energy gives us a new opportunity for collaboration, but it also brings tensions,” he noted, and added that “with good will and logical solutions the ‘golden ratio’ can be found,” referring to Israel’s agreement with Lebanon.
Another point of cooperation, according to Katz, is that of the technology sector and the synergies that can be developed in this field.
Speaking broadly about the importance of the Eastern Mediterranean region, he said that it is a corridor that connects many regions and Europe to Asia, and highlighted the importance of tripartite and multilateral forms of cooperation, such as between Israel, Greece and Cyprus.
