On Monday, President of the Hellenic Republic Katerina Sakellaropoulou graced the headquarters of the historic Greek community of Montevideo in Uruguay, where she was warmly received by its president, Panagiotis Hatzirallis, vice president Pavlos Avgoustis, and members of the Greek Diaspora.

President Sakellaropoulou has embarked on an official tour of Uruguay, following an invitation from President Luis Lacalle Pou.

During her visit, she made significant stops to honour the strong Greek presence in the South American nation. Following this, she paid a visit to the Greek-Orthodox Church of St. Nicholas accompanied by Metropolitan Joseph of Buenos Aires.

Expressing gratitude for the warm reception, President Sakellaropoulou highlighted the significance of her visit as the first by a Hellenic Republic President to Uruguay. She underscored the deep-rooted friendship between Greece and Uruguay, a sentiment evident throughout her stay in the country.

Earlier in her trip, on Sunday, President Sakellaropoulou explored various landmarks in Uruguay, including the National Library and the Solis Theatre, as well as neighbourhoods with notable Greek influence, further strengthening cultural ties between the two nations.
