A significant quantity of narcotics, concealed within shipments of fertilisers, was intercepted by customs inspectors from the AADE at Piraeus port.
The discovery came during a routine inspection of a container originating from Ecuador and bound for Croatia, purportedly carrying fertilisers. However, suspicions arose when X-ray scans revealed anomalies in the cargo's density, prompting further investigation.
Subsequent analysis by the Chemistry Department confirmed the presence of cocaine within the shipment. The seized narcotics included 500 bags weighing a total of 10.5 metric tonnes, containing a mixture of fertilizer and raw cocaine leaf shavings, as well as 400 sacks of fertilisers weighing 14 metric tonnes, utilised as a concealment method within the container.
Authorities are actively pursuing an investigation to apprehend individuals involved in the trafficking of large quantities of narcotics, both within Greece and across the European Union.
