The most famous melodies from popular movies will be performed at the Lycabettus Theatre for two nights in midsummer.

The concerts of the two leading and multi-awarded film music composers, Hans Zimmer and John Williams, will be held at the Lycabettus Theatre in Athens on Tuesday, July 9, and Wednesday, July 10.

John Williams, an American composer, conductor, and pianist, is a winner of five Academy Awards, four Golden Globes, seven BAFTAs, and twenty-three Grammy Awards. He holds the second-most Academy Award nominations, 52 in total, behind Walt Disney.

In 2005, the American Film Institute selected the Star Wars theme music as the greatest soundtrack of all time. Williams has composed the musical themes for eight of the 20 highest-grossing films in America, including Jaws, Star Wars, Superman, Indiana Jones, E.T., Seven Years in Tibet, Jurassic Park, Schindler’s List, and the first three Harry Potter films.

He has also written music for the Olympic Games and the musical themes for the television series Lost in Space and Land of the Giants. At the same time, he has composed countless works of classical music (concertos, sonatas and chamber music for orchestral ensembles and solo instruments).

He has collaborated with important composers, such as Stanley Myers, and leading directors, such as Christopher Nolan, Ridley Scott, Ron Howard, Gore Verbinski, Michael Bay, Guy Ritchie, and Denis Villeneuve, among others. The first film to which he contributed music was Terminal Exposure by Nico Mastorakis in 1987. He is head of the music department of DreamWorks films.

He is behind the soundtracks of famous films such as The Gladiator, Rain Man, Thelma & Louise, The Lion King, Dune, Top Gun, James Bond: No Time to Die, Blade Runner 2049, Inception, The Last Samurai, The Da Vinci Code, etc.

The two musical evenings will feature the Athens Philharmonic Orchestra under the direction of Michalis Economou.
