Tours at the Cypriot Collection of the National Archaeological Museum.

The National Archaeological Museum is organising a series of tours of the Cypriot Collection of the Museum, in room 64 of the 1st floor, on the sad anniversary of the 50th anniversary of the Turkish army’s invasion of Cyprus.

Cyprus has always maintained special ties with the rest of the Greek world and has always been a crossroads of peoples and cultures. The Cyprus Collection of the National Archaeological Museum numbers approximately 850 works, representing all Cypriot history and art periods from the Early Bronze Age (c. 2500 BC) to Roman times (4th century AD.).

Cyprus has always maintained special connections with the rest of the Greek world, being simultaneously crossroad of peoples and cultures. The Cypriot Collection of the National Archaeological Museum numbers approximately 850 works, which represent all periods of Cypriot history and art from the Early Bronze Age (c. 2500 BC) to Roman times (4th century AD).

Our permanent exhibition was inaugurated on March 18, 2009 and was prepared and organized with the donation of the A. G. Leventis Foundation and under the scientific supervision of Professor V. Karagiorghis, in collaboration with the National Archaeological Museum.

The tour schedule, offered by the archaeologists from the Department of Prehistoric, Egyptian, Cypriot and Oriental Antiquities Collections, is formatted as follows:

Tuesday, July 16 at 13.00 (duration 40′)

Thursday, July 18 at 10.00 (duration 40′)

Friday, July 19 at 18.00 (duration 40′)

Saturday, July 20 at 18.00 (duration 40′)

Meanwhile, we highlight the widely unknown history of the “run-away” of antiquities from the Cyprus Museum to Greece (December, 1974) and their exhibition in 1975 in the National Archaeological Museum. Relevant photographic material from the Museum’s archive, as well as audio-visual material from the valuable ERT archive, have been posted on the website and Social Media of the National Archaeological Museum.
