A guide to Arta - Historical past, active present

The famous arched bridge, the waters of the Arachthos River, the picturesque Tzoumerka, and the enviable history of the Byzantine and post-Byzantine periods—all these elements meet in the city of Arta to create an urban portrait that leans equally on the glorious past and the active present.

Arta is conveniently located almost at the height of the sea and on the banks of the famous river. The city, quiet and charming for lovers of adventure, has two elements: the mountain and the water.

Arachthos is responsible not only for the famous bridge, a legendary point of reference for the architectural history of the place and the folk tradition of the country but also for the fortification of the city.

The other part of the fortification, the Castle, completes this need for protecting the city while highlighting its glorious medieval past.

This is a past that comes to life through contact with the dozens of monasteries and churches and the remains of the period of the Despotate of Epirus and coexists through the ancient findings with the kingdom of Pyrrhus.

Rivers and mountains open the area to multiple activities.

From the world that forms the Delta of the omnipresent Arachthos and invites you to go boating in the Amvrakikos to the water route that passes through gorges, lakes, waterfalls, and parts of the Tzoumerka National Park, its waters provide space for activities and inventive entertainment games.

This mountainous world also recalls the presence of the stone, a world of escape identical to the continental land.

The puzzle of Arta is completed with traditional Epirotian flavours, pies, and meat of the finest quality, and it is a calm that is peculiarly suited for those who seek relaxation principles.

A special place full of continental pride, Arta does not close itself to its myths and does not hide them simultaneously. It opens, has stories to tell, and offers generously to all times of its history, as long as water and soil match the right dosage.
