Panathinaikos is set to honour the remaining three years of George Baldock’s contract following the tragic death of the former Sheffield United player at the age of 31.

Baldock, an England-born Greece international, was found dead in the swimming pool of his home in Glyfada, southern Athens. He joined the Greek Cup winners in the summer on a three-year deal after making 219 appearances for the Blades, including 83 in the Premier League.

According to sources close to the club, Panathinaikos, known for its strong values and compassionate ownership, will look after Baldock’s family, including his heartbroken fiancé and one-year-old son. As a tribute to the player, the club may also consider honouring his full contract and organizing a benefit match next year.
