Writer and star of the indie smash hit ‘My Big Fat Greek Wedding’ Nia Vardalos, is set to transition from screen to stage after being cast to star in the play ‘Tiny Beautiful Things,’ which will have its world premiere in November at the Public Theatre in New York.
‘Tiny Beautiful Things’ is based on the book by Cheryl Strayed, and is co-conceived by Vardalos, Kail and Marshall Heyman, with direction by Kail who directed the smash hit musical ‘Hamilton’.
"I've had the benefit where I've gotten to sing on Broadway, but nothing like this - a full play," said a nervous Vardalos.
Vardalos, will play Sugar, a hit online advice columnist who thousands of people have turned to for words of wisdom, honesty and hope. Strayed remained anonymous for much of her time as online columnist “Dear Sugar,” but revealed her identity when she published the novel, a collection of some of her most profound pieces.
