Airports around Greece break all- time record

Airports throughout Greece have seen a record-breaking 10 percent rise in passenger traffic from January through to September this year, with the Civil Aviation Authority reporting more than 53 million passengers during this period, compared to 48.21 million passengers recorded in 2017.

The number of flights recorded at Greece's airports between January and September reached 436,000 - 274,740 international and the remaining internal flights- an increase of 9.2 percent from the same period of 2017.

For the month of September, the number of passengers increased by 10.6 percent to 8.6 million and the number of flights by 12 percent to 67,177. The number of foreign passenger arrivals came to 3,198,349, up by 10.8 percent compared to 2017 at 2,886,032 arrivals.

Airports with the highest passenger traffic in September were Athens International Airport, which has serviced  2.5 million travellers, Heraklion in Crete with 1.2 million, and Rhodes Airport has handled 908,085.

Sitia in Crete, Milos, and Naxos have also seen a huge increase.
