Greece’s Ministry of Labor, Social Security, and Welfare has announced the commencement of its ‘hot meals for schools’ national programme for the third consecutive year at a cost of 50 million euros.

The programme sees the distribution of warm meals to schools throughout Greece and is rolled out in stages, with more than 153,244 students at 950 schools across 63 municipalities benefit from the scheme.

Alternate Social Services Minister, Theano Photiou, said that “child protection is at the heart of government policy. It is our deep conviction that social origin cannot determine the future of each child. We believe that measures for the child must be horizontal and not only address extreme poverty.”
