Greece expresses solidarity to India following Uttarakhand tragedy

As many as 200 people are still missing after a piece of a Himalayan glacier fell into a river and burst open a dam that triggered a huge flood in northern India, killing 18 with another 200 people missing.

The disaster happened in a valley in the state of Uttarakhand on Sunday and most of the missing are believed to be workers from two hydropower plants.

In response to the disaster, the Greek Foreign Ministry expressed their "solidarity" due to the disaster.

"Deeply saddened by the loss of lives following the glacier burst in Uttarakhand," the Foreign Ministry said on Twitter.

"Our thoughts are with the families of the victims and with the rescue crews fighting to save lives. We stand in solidarity with the people of India and with all affected by this tragedy," the Ministry added.
