Greece and Saudi Arabia affirmed their commitment to the sustainable development of coastal and marine tourism in their countries.

On Sunday, Greece’s Minister of Tourism Harry Theoharis and his Saudi Arabian counterpart Ahmed Al Khateeb, signed a cooperation agreement on sustainable coastal and marine tourism.

The agreement involves exchanging knowledge and best practices in the field of investment, human capital development, training, event organisation, marketing and promotion to support sustainable coastal and marine tourism.

Theoharis said that coastal and marine tourism was the “backbone” of his country’s tourism offering, therefore protecting ecosystems was among its priorities.

“This is a positive step taken by Saudi Arabia and Greece, and it is one of the fruits of international cooperation that will achieve a more sustainable future for tourism and lead to addressing the repercussions of the pandemic on the global tourism sector,” said Al Khateeb.

Greek, Saudi Tourism Ministers agree to boost tourism flows and investments

Last month, the Tourism Ministers of Greece and Saudi Arabia agreed to the mutual recognition of national vaccination certificates.

Tourism Minister Harry Theocharis and his Saudi counterpart Ahmed Al-Khateeb also signed an agreement for closer collaborations and for promoting joint actions at World Tourism Organization level, and also within EU’s relations in the broader Middle East.

Restarting and encouraging tourism between the two countries and promoting tourism investments in Greece was also discussed by the two ministers.
