Tax Crackdown: Nail Technician Hit with €35,000 Fine in Crete

In a recent crackdown on tax evasion and unregistered businesses, a nail technician in Chania received a hefty fine of 35,000 Euros after checks conducted by the Independent Authority for Public Revenue (AADE), in collaboration with the police.

According to reports from zarpanews.gr, inspectors from Heraklion descended on a residence in Chania last Friday, where they discovered a woman offering nail care services. The authorities identified the case through social media, where the technician had posted advertisements for her services.

However, investigations revealed that the technician had not registered her business officially, and no invoices had been issued for the services provided.

Consequently, the inspection team imposed a significant fine of 35,000 Euros on the individual.

This crackdown comes following an announcement by the Ministry of Finance last autumn, signalling intentions to scrutinise social media users suspected of conducting professional activities and attracting clients online without fulfilling their tax obligations.

The recent enforcement actions indicate that this initiative has now extended to Crete, as authorities ramp up efforts to combat tax evasion and unregistered businesses across the country.
