Punjabi superstar Satinder Sartaaj in Athens on July 27th!

Dr. Satinder Sartaaj is a multi-gifted artist, songwriter, singer, composer and poet. Today, he possesses an unprecedented list of achievements and remains at the forefront of his craft, a true inspiration.

Sartaaj’s emergence has been tied to the long list of hit songs that date back a decade, however the Punjab native has always demonstrated an uncanny ability to transcend.

The practicing music professor’s reverence of his craft and culture has always been on display in his music but his recent acceptance by greater audiences have catapulted this superstar.

His collaborations with Nelly Furtado, Talib Kweli, and other American music stars combined with his collaboration with Indian Cinema queen Shabana Azmi on the film The Black prince have helped graduate this prolific performer to a grander playing field.

Satinder Pal Singh was born in the village of Bajrawar in Hoshiarpur, Punjab, India. He attended school at the government elementary school in his village. While in the third standard, he began performing in local Bal Sabhas.

He obtained an honours degree in music from Government College, Hoshiarpur. He concentrated on his musical career while completing his MPhil in Sufi music singing and later a PhD in Sufi singing (Gayan) from Panjab University, Chandigarh.

The doctor also taught music at Panjab University for six years. Sartaaj also completed a certificate course and Diploma in the Persian language.

He started writing poetry and adopted his Takhallus (pen name), Sartaaj, while at college.
