In a statement on X, Kikilias described the meeting as “cordial, targeted, and constructive,” highlighting their agreement to deepen and intensify collaboration on civil protection. Both ministers stressed the importance of joint efforts to tackle the multiple global challenges arising from the climate crisis.
Kikilias noted Doughty’s “profound gratitude” for the Greek Fire Service‘s actions during the wildfires in Rhodes last year and Kos this year, which safeguarded the lives of thousands of British tourists.
Doughty also shared his appreciation on X for the “useful exchange” and praised the cooperation between the UK and Greece-EU. He emphasised the importance of continuing to work together to address the climate crisis and its impacts, and he acknowledged the efforts of both countries to keep their citizens safe.
