eVTOL: Flying taxis are getting ready for takeoff in Greece too!

The summer of 2026 is the milestone for the electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft from the Logothetis Group and Aria Hotels to begin their flights in Greece.

Beta, the American manufacturer of electric vertical take-off and landing (CTOLS) aircraft, has released the key features of its five-seat eVTOL, News Auto reported

In late summer, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) gave Beta the green light to begin training pilots for the Alia 250. These are planes that the Logothetis group will purchase from Beta, whose team of pilots will be able to train the crew of this aircraft.

The next milestone is the certification of eVTOLs by the FAA and the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA), with the FAA having recently completed the preparation of the 880-page regulation for vertical take-off and landing aircraft.

The Logothetis Group is going to procure 10 Alia-250, with the project being implemented by Aria Wings, which will undertake to carry out all the required procedures so Greece can become one of the first countries in the world where purely electric aircraft will fly.

The eVTOLs will be able to transport five passengers and a pilot and cover a distance of 250 nautical miles.

With the ability to charge in one hour, Aria Hotel will use the eVTOLs to facilitate the movement of guests to its hotels.

The company has calculated that for a tourist to travel from Athens to Kimolos, up to seven hours and a cost of approximately 200 euros (one-way only) are required. This is because, in addition to the route from Athens airport to Milos, the transfer from the port of Milos to Kimolos is required.

In contrast, the transfer to Kimolos from Athens via an eVTOL takes 45 minutes, and the cost of (one) trip is approximately 750 euros, a cost at least 30% lower than that of a helicopter, according to the company.

Aria Hotels is also evaluating the use of CTOLS, i.e., electric aircraft that land and take off conventionally (not vertically) and will use existing airports.

Aria, together with Beta, will create the appropriate infrastructure (Vertiports) for the landing of eVTOLS in popular but difficult-to-reach destinations such as Mani, as well as special landing areas at selected hotels, such as Kipi Suites in Zagori.
