Molyvos International Music Festival in Lesvos

The 2nd Molyvos International Music Festival (MIMF), to take place on the Greek island of Lesvos, on August 16-19, brings together some of the world’s finest artists for four days of classical music creating a “Crossroads” of artistic exchange.

Up-and-coming musicians join internationally acclaimed soloists in a one-of-a-kind celebration against a stunning and inspiring Aegean island backdrop. Organisers stress the added significance and symbolism of the event this year for Lesvos, which has borne the brunt of the ongoing refugee influx, and add that it demonstrates how music can still inspire, connect and unite people.

Aiming to become Greece’s most prestigious classical music event and one of Europe’s idyllic chamber music festivals, the MIMF this year features among others Maximilian Hornung, Alissa Margulis, Philipp Zeller and Lars Vogt.

In the words of celebrated British conductor and artistic director of the Berliner Philharmoniker, Sir Simon Rattle, “The idea that music and culture bring people together and are a vital part of a greater healing is a concept deep in my heart. You are a beacon of light in dark times, and I wish you all courage and success,” he said of the event.

The 2nd Molyvos International Music Festival was founded and is being organised by Greek-german pianists Danae and Kiveli Dörken and Dimitris Tryfon, with the support of the culture ministry, the North Aegean Region and the German Embassy in Athens.

In efforts to support the initiative, which includes educational programs the run year round at local schools, a crowdfunding campaign is also underway: https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/support-the-island-of-lesbos-through-music#/
