‘I just hate crystal clear waters and breathtaking natural sights,’ said no one EVER!
Greece is home to some of the cleanest, highest quality swimming waters in all of Europe.
According to data recently released by the European Environment Agency (EEA), 97.1% of Greece’s swimming waters are classified as “excellent”.
This of course isn’t a surprise to those who have swum in the country’s clear, calm and tranquil waters.
On average, 83.7% of the swimming waters in the EU are “excellent”. Greece, is definitely above ‘average’.
In the European Environmental Agency’s 2020 Bathing Water report, Greece, Cyprus, Malta, Croatia and Austria are the only EU countries which meet more than 95% of the agency’s quality standards for bathing waters.
The evaluation was based on extensive monitoring and water samples-testing at some 22,276 coastal and inland bathing waters at EU members states throughout 2020.
A total of 1,634 bathing areas were tested across Greece.
So, pack your swimming kit and get ready to dive in.
