"Greece is in our coverage area", writes the front page article in the newspaper Türkiye, which also presented the capabilities of the short-range ballistic missile "Tayfun" to hit targets in Greek territory as well.
"The domestic missile 'Tayfun' hit the target at a distance of 561 km with an accurate hit. Great pride in our defence. The indigenous rocket developed by Roketsan was also tested in Rize," the Turkish media outlet wrote.
"Tayfun achieved its goal with a range that can hit all parts of Greece ," the publication added, adapting the news to the "pro-war" climate against Greece.
Türkiye presented a map with the range and capabilities of the new ballistic missile, which includes not only Greece, but also other neighbouring countries of Turkey such as Bulgaria, Cyprus, Syria, Lebanon, Israel, Iraq and Armenia.
The Short Range Ballistic Missile Tayfun was manufactured by the Roketsan company, as part of a project implemented by the Defence Industry Directorate of the Presidency of the Republic of Turkey.
The launch took place at the Rize-Artvin airport, at the dock of the Ministry of National Defence, heading towards the open sea of Sinope and the missile reportedly successfully hit the target at a distance of 561 kilometres in 458 seconds.
Structurally, "Tayfun" resembles the "Bora" ballistic missile. According to Turkish reports, it will join the Turkish armed forces after the tests are completed, strengthening the "deterrent capability" as they say.
The possibility of development by Turkey of a network of missile systems, which will also consist of "Yildirim" (range over 150 km) and "Bora" (over 280 km) type missiles, will endanger urban centres, strategic facilities and infrastructure in neighboring countries - including Greece - as analysts estimate.
Turkish social media users are posting maps showing that the missile's range covers all of Greece, North Macedonia, Bulgaria, Romania and, depending on where it is launched, could reach as far south as Israel and Egypt, north in the Crimea and east to cover the entire territory of Armenia and Azerbaijan.
It is recalled that, two years ago, Ankara signed an agreement with Moscow for the purchase of the Russian anti-missile systems S-400, which caused the annoyance of the USA , which in turn announced the imposition of sanctions.
It should be noted that the test of the ballistic missile was accompanied by new threats from the Turkish Minister of Defence Hulusi Akar, who brought back to the fore Ankara's claim for joint exploitation of the Aegean Sea.
Turkey, Akar said, is not a threat, but a safe ally. However, he added meaningfully: "Everyone must know that we will not allow any fait accompli."
Speaking in the context of a military exercise called "Free Fire", the Turkish official reiterated the so-called fair distribution of the wealth of the Aegean.
"We are ready to meet. We say that we are in fair of the Aegean becoming a sea of friendship and that all the wealth is shared fairly," he said, adding: "We say we are in favour of the Aegean becoming a sea of friendship and a fair distribution of all wealth. Turkey is a safe ally, it does not threaten anyone."
