Violence against women and girls is one of the most widespread and devastating human rights violations worldwide. It is estimated that 35% of women have been victims of violence at some point in their lives, a percentage that in some countries reaches 70%. Therefore, addressing it requires global and continuous participation in all countries and regions.

The Hellenic Red Cross commemorates the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women by organising a Scientific Conference at the Mediterranean Palace Hotel on Saturday, November 25, 2025, at noon, organised by the Thessaloniki Regional Department of the Hellenic Red Cross.

The Social Welfare Department of the Hellenic Red Cross implements a series of actions specifically dedicated to the female population, aiming to protect, improve the quality of life, and ensure their rights. The actions of the Social Welfare Sector are described in detail in the following link: http://www.redcross.gr/files/athina_261023.pdf

The aim of the event is, on the one hand, to inform society about a burning issue and, on the other hand, to contribute to raising awareness and mobilising all competent Agencies for the harmful consequences in people’s personal, social and professional lives.

At the meeting of the Hellenic Red Cross, the following distinguished speakers will participate:

1. Coroner, Professor AUTH, Director of the Laboratory of Forensics and Toxicology, Department of Medicine AUTH, Dr. Leda Kovatsis.
2. Psychologist ELAS, Dr. Apostolos Kaliambos.
