A 57-year-old father was sentenced to 15 years in prison by the Mixed Jury Court of Thessaloniki, who is alleged to have committed acts that caused disgust. He was found guilty of repeatedly raping his minor daughter from 2007 to 2009. His appeal did not suspend the execution of the sentence.
According to GR Times, the defendant did not appear in court but was represented by a lawyer, and as of today, he has become a fugitive. The 57-year-old was not located and did not appear to testify even before the 1st regular investigator, who issued an arrest warrant on April 11, 2022.
The case was revealed after 13 years. In 2022, a 30-year-old woman from Thessaloniki reported to the police that her father, at gunpoint, raped her, from the age of 15 to 17, in front of her underage brother, who, due to his disability, could not react.
The 30-year-old pointed out that she did not find support from her mother and older brother, who knew but did nothing.
"I tried to kill myself. My mother and my other older brother knew about it. I was telling him, 'Please save me'. I asked my brother to testify, and he said, 'You're going to make us look bad.' When I told my mother that he was raping me" she threatened me that if I spoke she would hurt me and my daughters. I have been talking to my mother since January 2022. She told me not to mention her name. I don't have any contact with her, not even by phone," testified the victim.
“My father always abused my mother. Once, he hit her in the head with the handle of the pistol. He was in and out of jail for various crimes. We were legally in Greece but he was not. In August 2009, the last rape took place. When I met my husband in 2010, I told him from the first moment. But I didn't tell him who did it. My husband supported me from the beginning. I was afraid for my life, for my husband and my daughters. In January 2022, I reported him. He threatened me that he would do the same to my daughters. No woman, no child should experience what I experienced. Even today, I relive it. I am scarred for life. At least my children don't feel the same," she pointed out.
"I was scared by my mother's threats. She beat me when I was little, and whatever he said, she did. She told me she would ruin my marriage if I spoke. I was afraid of losing my man, that's why I didn't report it earlier. I took courage when he threatened my children. My older brother grew up with my grandparents. They were constantly arguing with my father because my brother didn't want to be with him," she added.
In her testimony, the 30-year-old mother and wife of the accused stated that she did not know anything: "I heard it for the first time in 2022. She accused him (including her father) because she did not get her the gifts she asked him for the holidays".
How the complaint was made
On the occasion of an incident of domestic violence that took place on New Year's Day 2022 at her mother's house, the girl decided to break her silence after almost 13 years. Her words were confirmed as accurate by an expert psychologist, and the 57-year-old father was charged, according to the local media.
