GREEK FESTIVAL OF SYDNEY

The Greek Festival of Sydney is one of Australia’s largest and longest-running annual cultural events. This year’s festival will take place on the weekend of the 25th and 26th of February 2017*.
Regarded as one of the most attended Greek-Australian community events in NSW, this two-day celebration of Greek culture in Tumbalong Park, Darling Harbour will feature a special live music performance by renowned Glykeria on Sunday.

 

Two days of non-stop entertainment: ancing performances all weekend and live music from local and international musicians, you will be dancing non stop!

 

Performances by Maria Stavropoulou, Nikitas Ellenis, Nikos Sousamidis, Anna Papoulia, Iho Nyx, George Doukas the Aegean Quartet, musicians from Gazi Live, comedy by George Catsi and a Karagiozis theatre performances presented by the Hellenic Art Theatre.

 

In addition to the exciting live music programme, there will also be traditional Greek dancing and a diverse range of stalls offering authentic Greek goods and mouth-watering eats.

30th Lonsdale St Greek Festival

The Lonsdale St Greek Festival celebrates 30 years in 2017, where Melbourne’s biggest Greek Street party brings a weekend of Greek culture, food and entertainment to the city’s historic Greek Precinct.

Featuring 3 stages of free entertainment, children’s rides and activities, and over 60 food, drink and craft stalls, Melbourne’s largest celebration of Greek culture will take over Lonsdale Street on 25 & 26 February 2017.

The event offers plenty of activities for the younger festival-goer, including Greek dancing lessons, storytelling, art and craft, face painting and carnival rides.

For the first time this year, the Blessed Parish of St Stephanos Hurlstone Park will proudly host a Christmas Carols evening, on Friday December 16th between 6pm and 9pm.

St. Stephanos’ Christmas Carols Event aims to not only mark the birth of our Saviour and Lord Jesus Christ, but also to unite families, parishioners and friends of the St. Stephanos’ local inner west community, as well as the broader Greek community.

This special evening will be filled with live performances from St Stephanos’ child care centre children, the Parish Greek Dancing Group, and also from Orthodox Choirs, and local as well as interstate musicians.

OXI Day Ceremony in Sydney, Australia

Sydney’s Greek and Australian community will have the opportunity to celebrate together their mutual achievements in World War II during a commemorative event at the Anzac Memorial Hyde Park, Sydney.

Organised by the Consulate General of Greece in Sydney all Australians are invited to a public flag raising and star ceremony to commemorate 76th Anniversary of the day Greece said a resounding ‘OXI’ (‘NO’) to the Axis Powers on the 28th October 1940, and to also honour the gallantry and sacrifice of more than 17,000 Anzacs who served with distinction in the Battle of Crete and the Greek Campaign.

The ceremony will include medal presentations and the presentation of special marble plaques “ANZACS OF GREECE” to RSL branch representatives on the day. The inscription of the plaque is taken from an ancient Athenian marble inscription which praises the valour of those that died fighting for Democracy. A copy of the original plaque is exhibited in the Canberra War Memorial.

The Oakleigh Greek Glendi is managed and presented by The Greek Orthodox Community of Oakleigh & District and Oakleigh Grammar.

Now in it’s 4th year, the Oakleigh Greek Glendi will be held on Saturday 29th and Sunday 30th of October 2016 at Warrawee Park Oakleigh.

Attracting over 30,000 people, the Oakleigh Greek Glendi is a celebration of cultural diversity with an emphasis on Greek culture through music, performance and food.

This two day festival celebrates the local community’s rich Hellenic culture, including the commemoration of the official Greek National Day known as ‘Ohi’ and the Patron Saints of Sts Anargiri.

The Hellenic Initiative is holding its Annual Gala on September 30, 2016 at the Waldorf Astoria, New York.

The Hellenic Initiative is honoring Greek Non Government Organisation’s METAδραση (founded to help facilitate the reception and integration of refugees and immigrants in Greece) and ‘Ενωση “Μαζί για το Παιδι” (Together for Children-offers every form of assistance to children and young people irrespective of race, religion and political conviction,  supporting more than 30,000 children, on an annual basis ) for all of the wonderful work they are doing in Greece.

Admiral Jim Stavridis will provide the keynote address with actor Chris Diamantopoulos as the emcee!
