By 2 weeks ago

Today, Thursday, April 18, Greece celebrates World Heritage Day (also known as International Day for Monuments and Sites) by allowing visitors free entry to all its museums and historical archaeology sites.

Under the auspices of the Ministry of Culture and Sports, entrance to Greece's array of museums, archaeological sites, and monuments is free, allowing citizens and visitors alike to immerse themselves in the country's rich cultural heritage.

The International Day of Monuments and Sites holds historical importance, having been designated by the General Assembly of UNESCO in 1983, following a proposal from the International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS) in 1982.

Beyond Greece, this day sees a global commemoration with various events centered around the theme of cultural heritage.

As visitors flock to explore Greece's storied past, the nation stands proud, sharing its legacy with the world.
