Greece One of the Healthiest Nations for Young People

According to recent data from Eurostat, Greece stands out as one of the healthiest nations for its young population. In 2022, 97.4% of young people aged 16 to 29 perceived themselves to be in good or very good health.

This statistic places Greece among the top-ranking EU countries for youth health, alongside Romania and Bulgaria.

In contrast, countries like Denmark, Sweden, and Finland recorded lower percentages, with only a fraction of their young populations reporting good or very good health. Denmark, in particular, saw only 71.1% of its youth feeling healthy, indicating a significant disparity compared to Greece.

However, amidst these positive health perceptions, concerns arise regarding disability rates among young adults. The data reveals a higher prevalence of moderate disability, particularly among young women. In 2022, 8.5% of young women aged 16 to 29 reported moderate disability, surpassing their male counterparts by 2 percentage points. This trend marks a notable increase from the previous year, indicating a growing challenge in maintaining optimal health among young women in Greece.

Additionally, both genders experienced a rise in the prevalence of moderate disability compared to the previous year. In 2021, the figures stood at 6.7% for young women and 5.8% for young men, highlighting a concerning upward trajectory.

Despite these challenges, the prevalence of severe disability remained consistent for both genders, with 2% of young adults reporting severe disability in 2022.
