The event, titled "NIES PONTOPORII: Building the Myth," will feature the life-size replica of a Mycenaean eikosoros, a ship with two rows of 10 oars, offering visitors a unique glimpse into the maritime heritage of ancient Greece.
In addition to the ship, visitors will be able to explore reconstructed shipbuilding tools used by ancient craftsmen, revealing the techniques and secrets of Mycenaean shipbuilders. The event will also provide insight into the shipbuilding art of Odysseus, detailing the techniques described in the Homeric epics, particularly the construction of Odysseus' famous raft from The Odyssey.
This immersive exhibition aims to bring ancient Greek maritime history to life, showcasing the advanced naval engineering that shaped the seafaring traditions of the Mycenaeans and other ancient civilisations.
