Old-Fashioned Beef Burgers: Biftekia

An all-time favourite in every Greek household growing up and still a go-to favourite today, biftekia with patates (beef burgers with potatoes).

Whether it was your mama or yiayia who would have this dish prepared and waiting for you after school or work, it's etched in our culinary memories as one of our top rated Greek combos. The ultimate duo-combo, meat and potatoes...Greek style! The tangy lemon flavoured roasted potatoes with biftekia, is not only delicious but so satisfying. It's also so easy to make so if you haven't already, give it go and carry on the cooking traditions and remember, there's nothing better, healthier or tastier than home cooked food.

It's time for the most succulent "biftekia" ever! These all-time favourite Greek burgers are made with fresh herbs and baked with tender potatoes. Follow Akis Petretzikis' recipe and enjoy a mouthwatering meal!

Ingredients

1 1/2 kilo potatoes
1 tablespoon(s) oregano
75 g olive oil
lemon zest, of 1 lemon
lemon juice, of 1 lemon
2 tablespoon(s) mustard
1 clove(s) of garlic
150 g water
salt
pepper
Burgers
150 g bread
200 g whole milk
1 onion
500 g ground beef
500 g ground pork
1 clove(s) of garlic
75 g olive oil
Salt
Pepper
1 tablespoon(s) oregano
1/4 bunch parsley
2 tablespoon(s) mint
1 egg
Potatoes
Cut the potatoes into wedges and add them to a 30x40 cm pan.
In a bowl add the oregano, olive oil, lemon zest and juice, mustard and mix.
Add the garlic finely chopped, the water, salt, pepper and mix.
Pour the marinade over the potatoes and mix. Set them aside.
Burgers

Preheat the oven to 190ο C (370ο F) set to fan
In a bowl add the bread cut into pieces, the milk, and set it aside to soak.
Grate the onion on a box grater placed in a dish towel. Squeeze to remove the whole water of the onion and set it aside. Alternatively, finely chop, and sauté it well.

In another bowl add the ground meat, the onion, the garlic finely chopped, the egg, and mix very well.

Shape 10 burger patties and put them in the pan with the potatoes.
Cover the pan with aluminium foil and bake for 40 mins. Uncover and bake for another 25-30 mins, until nicely golden brown.
Remove and serve with Greek (horiatiki) salad.
