The geographical distribution of new car sales in the Mediterranean country is always interesting…

The new car market in August declined in Greece. Sales of passenger vehicles reached 8,163 units from 10,368 in the corresponding month of 2023. The percentage drop exceeded 21%, something seen for many months in the country’s car market.

But which regions of Greece, or rather the prefectures, had the most cars registered last month?

According to News Auto, as expected, most registrations in August were in the Attica region. The total number reached 5,071 units, with the percentage of the entire market reaching 62.1%.

Of course, a significant role in this large percentage was played by company and rent-a-car vehicles, which reached 2,934 registrations, with the percentage of the entire market in this category reaching 78.7%.

Tourist areas are strong

Thessaloniki followed further behind with 714 classifications and a market share of 8.7%, while five tourist areas are further down.

According to the data, Heraklion in Crete followed with 290 sales and a percentage of 3.6%. Ioannina had 169 sales and the Dodecanese 161. Rethymno and Chania were further behind, with 130 and 112 registrations, respectively.

Next were Patras, Larissa, and Kozani, with 111, 110, and 108 classifications, respectively.

The above prefectures were the only ones to exceed the psychological limit of 100 units and the only areas to exceed 1% of the total market.
