A large batch of medical supplies to combat coronavirus (COVID-19) including more than 1.7 million surgical masks, arrived in Greece from China via an Aegean Airlines flight.
Other vital supplies in the cargo were uniforms and face shields, all of which were donated by the Onassis Foundation and Greek Shipowners.
It is the largest donation of health care supplies to date, according to government officials who said that additional flights over the coming days will bring more surgical masks and protective uniforms.
The cost of supplying and transporting the medical supplies to Greece is mainly covered by donations from foundations and companies.
A few days ago, Aegean Airlines and Hellenic Petroleum offered the free use of aircraft and fuel, respectively, to bring medical supplies from China to Greece to fight the coronavirus epidemic.
