Greece's Unemployment Rate Drops to 10.9% in August 2023

In August 2023, Greece's unemployment rate dropped to 10.9% from 12.3% in August of the previous year, marking a significant improvement.

The Hellenic Statistical Authority announced this data on Monday, revealing that the rate remained relatively stable compared to July. During August, there were 512,193 unemployed individuals, a decline of 71,013 compared to August 2022, and a slight decrease of 2,080 from July 2023.

Breaking down the unemployment rate further, women experienced a rate of 14.4%, which is a decrease from 16.3% in August 2022. For men, the unemployment rate stood at 8.3%, down from 9.3% in the previous year. In terms of age groups, the rate for individuals aged 15-24 dropped to 22.5% from 29.8% in August 2022. Likewise, the rate for those aged 25-74 fell to 10.3% from 11.2% during the same period.

On a positive note, the number of employed individuals increased to 4,170,977 in August 2023. This reflects a rise of 30,190 compared to August 2022; however, it also represents a decline of 47,172 from July 2023. These figures demonstrate both progress and volatility in Greece's job market.
