Cocaine Shipment Worth €1 Million Seized at Piraeus Port

Narcotics officials discovered a cocaine shipment worth over 1 million euros hidden in a banana container at the Piraeus port on Monday. The operation, conducted with the collaboration of US Homeland Security, uncovered 34.35 kg of cocaine. Investigations are ongoing to locate the recipients of the shipment.

Early Monday morning, narcotics officials intercepted a shipment of cocaine valued at over €1 million at the Piraeus port.

The successful operation involved the Narcotics and Smuggling Directorate, the Regional Narcotics Task Force, and the Central Port Authority of Piraeus’ Security Office, in collaboration with the US Homeland Security Investigations at the US embassy in Athens.

The drugs, hidden in the refrigeration unit of a banana container shipped from Ecuador, were discovered in 30 packages, amounting to a total gross weight of 34.35 kilograms. Two additional containers were inspected, but no further narcotics were found.

Authorities are continuing their investigation to identify and apprehend the intended recipients of the shipment.
