The Australian Open is a Melbourne must-do, drawing huge crowds eager to experience world-class tennis. Navigating this massive event can be tricky, so here’s your essential guide for a smooth AO experience.

Key Dates & Location:

  • When: Sunday, January 12 to Sunday, January 26, 2025
  • Where: Melbourne Park (between the CBD and Richmond), featuring Rod Laver Arena, Margaret Court Arena, John Cain Arena, Kia Arena, 1573 Arena, and many more.
  • Gates Open: 10am daily

Tickets:

  • Purchase: Online via Ticketmaster.
  • Options: Allocated arena seating or ground passes.
  • Ground Passes: Daytime passes (from $59) access most areas except Rod Laver and Margaret Court Arenas. Access to John Cain Arena is via a virtual queue (not guaranteed). Evening passes (from $25) grant access after 5pm.

Getting There:

  • Public Transport: Recommended.
    • Tram: Routes 70 and 70a to Rod Laver Arena/Garden Square entrance.
    • Train: To Richmond Station (short walk to Grand Slam Oval entrance) via Alamein, Belgrave, Cranbourne, Frankston, Glen Waverley, Lilydale, Pakenham, and Sandringham lines.
  • Walking: Approximately 20 minutes from Flinders Street Station.

  • Quarterfinals: January 21-22
  • Women’s Semifinal: January 23
  • Men’s Semifinal: January 24
  • Women’s Final: January 25

Numerous bars (including the Terazza Aperol) and restaurants (like Entrecôte, Stalactites, and Easey’s) offer diverse food and drink options.

What to Wear:

  • No Dress Code: Dress comfortably for Melbourne’s summer heat.
