Melbourne, Australia – Greek Australian tennis star Nick Kyrgios has assured fans he’ll be ready to compete at the upcoming Australian Open despite an early-week abdominal strain.

“Felt pretty good out there this morning,” Kyrgios said on Friday. “Obviously, my body’s a little sore after the setback (with the abdominal strain).”

Kyrgios, 29, recently returned to the ATP Tour after an 18-month absence. While acknowledging some lingering niggles, he remains confident: “As long as it’s not my wrist again, I think I can manage it.”

His return to Brisbane last week was promising, with a singles match and two doubles victories. “Had a successful return,” Kyrgios said, referencing his doubles team with tennis legend Novak Djokovic. “Just enjoying being back and being part of the tournament again.”

Undeterred, Kyrgios believes his presence adds excitement to the sport. “We watch for personalities,” he stated. “I think it adds a bit of a question mark, which I love. It’s good to be back; the sport was becoming mundane.

Kyrgios kicks off his Australian Open campaign on Monday against Britain’s Jacob Fearnley.
