Multiple wildfires blazed across Greece on Tuesday, with the most concerning situation unfolding on the Cyclades island of Milos. Strong winds fanned flames through the island's brush near the airport in the Zefyria area. Residents and visitors in the vicinity received SMS alerts recommending the evacuation of two nearby beaches as a precaution.
Although Milos primarily consists of arid brushland with some crops, it lacks significant forests, minimizing the risk of a major wildfire. Fortunately, fire crews managed to extinguish 35 of the 41 reported blazes on Tuesday. The remaining six fires remain under control.
Greek civil protection authorities have warned residents about the wildfire threat and banned specific outdoor activities. Firefighters and emergency services are on high alert to respond to any further outbreaks.
