According to an article published in the Israeli media outlet Mako, Hezbollah may target four locations in Cyprus if the country actively supports Israeli military strikes against Gaza.
The first potential target is the Andreas Papandreou air force base in Paphos, which is less than 300 km from the Lebanese coast - well within Hezbollah's rocket range. As the largest and most central air base in Cyprus, it houses the main air infrastructure and communications units of the Cypriot air force.
Another possible target is the air base in Lakatamia, just south of the capital Nicosia. While this serves as the headquarters of the Cypriot air force, it has a relatively small aircraft presence.
The report also identifies the Cyprus Air Force control unit in the Troodos mountains as a potential target. Though this base has no runway, it hosts numerous radar, command and control, and air defense systems.
Finally, the British sovereign base of Akrotiri is mentioned as a possible target, as it has previously been used to support US military operations, though not Israeli strikes. However, the British government has denied hosting any Israeli military personnel or aircraft at the base since the start of the Israel-Hamas conflict.
The report comes after Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah threatened Cyprus, warning that the country could be considered "part of the war" if it continues to allow Israel to use its airports and bases. This is widely believed to be a reference to the Akrotiri base.
