The Secretary General for Lifelong Learning of the Ministry of Education, Research and Religious Affairs Pausanias Papageorgiou announced in a statement on Wednesday the gathering of Greek and Israeli students under the “Young Ambassadors” initiative of Israel’s “Young Leadership Center”.

According to the statement Papageorgiou said that 80 children from two Greek and five Israeli schools came together at the Athens Concert Hall and “strove to come up with answers to crucial questions, but also to debunk stereotypes.”

Further to meeting and conversing with Greek youths, the Israeli students had the opportunity to visit the Athens sites, the Parliament and the Foreign Ministry.

Andy, who is participating in the program, told ANA that one of the most intense experiences of the trip was when the group “got to deepen our roots with the Jewish community that lives here.”

Sawsan Hasson, Deputy Chief Mission of the Embassy of Israel, stated that “this is the third time that the Young Ambassador programme brings Israeli students to Greece.”

However, she added, it is the first time that the Young Ambassadors have the chance to meet local students.

“The fact that the children were quick in starting up conversations and that they discovered they have common interests and concerns is very important,” Hasson said.
