Greek and Turkish foreign ministries schedule urgent talks

Greece’s Foreign Affairs Ministry issued a brief statement, today Thursday 9 January stating that in the framework of the regular political consultations between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Greece and Turkey, talks will be held in Ankara on 10 January 2020 between delegations under the chairmanship of H.E. Ambassador Themistoklis Demiris, Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Greece and H.E. Ambassador Sedat Önal, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkey.

According to the Ministry’s statement, the two delegations will discuss bilateral relations, regional and international issues will be addressed.

The announcement comes a day after Greece, Egypt, Cyprus, Italy, and France issued a joint communique denouncing the ‘illegal’ Memorandum of Understanding between Turkey and Libya declaring it ‘null and void’ and not recognised by international law.
