Ireland’s  President Michael Higgins on Thursday hosted a dinner in honour of President Prokopis Pavlopoulos who is currently in the country on a two-day state visit.
During his dinner address, the Greek President took the opportunity to raise the issue of the continuing Turkish provocations and Greece’s firm stance.

“Greece keeps telling Turkey that its arbitrariness shall not pass and that together with the European Union and the international community, we will defend in full our sovereign rights, with regard to the country’s borders, the continental shelf and the Exclusive Economic Zone of both Greece and the European Union,” stressed Pavlopoulos.

Furthermore, Pavlopoulos underlined that Turkey is dangerously undermining its European prospects, by blatantly violating international and European law.
This is shown by “firstly, Turkey’s continued arbitrary intervention in Syria and secondly by its attitude towards migrants and refugees – this being in breach of both its agreement on refugees with the European Union as well as the principles of humanity and fundamental human rights,” he concluded.
