The Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs in a statement released last Friday, confirmed that a Greek government delegation met in Skopje with their North Macedonian counterparts to initiate talks for the establishment of a singular Border-Crossing Point in the Prespa Lake Area.

The Joint Experts Committee on the Establishment of one Border-Crossing Point in the Prespa Lake Area, was chaired by the State Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and President of the Delegation of the Republic of North Macedonia, Zoran Popov.

The Greek Delegation was headed by Konstantinos Tsouvalas, Secretary General of Public Order at the Ministry of Citizen Protection.

During the meeting, views were exchanged on the future activities that should be undertaken by the Joint Experts Committee concerning the opening of the aforementioned border-crossing point.

Both sides elaborated and reached agreement in principle on the text of the Rules of Operation and Procedure of the Joint Experts Committee that will be adopted at its second meeting.

The meeting took place in a positive and constructive atmosphere and in the spirit of mutual understanding.

It was agreed that the second meeting of the Joint Expert Committee should take place in the first half of March 2020 in the Hellenic Republic.
