Ariel Winter, an American actress known for her role as Alex Dunphy in the comedy series ‘Modern Family’, sliced off the tip of her thumb while making Greek food and revealed all the bloody details to Access Hollywood on Tuesday, including how she accidentally threw it in the trash.

“I was trying to make Greek food, ’cause I’m Greek’ and so I was like: “All right, I’m gonna try all these new things. I wanna try and make this. I wanna try and make this dish I love,” she stated.

Ariel Winter was born on January 28, 1998 in Los Angeles. Her greek name is Eleftheria, as previously revealed in an interview. Her mother, Chrisoula Workman is of Greek origin.

She also has a tattoo in Greek,”Ἡ αγἀπη ρισκἀρει τα πἀντα και δεν ζητἀει τἰποτα”, which translates to “Love risks everything and asks for nothing.”

The bloody details: As Ariel was chopping a peeled tomato, she also sliced the top part of her thumb.

The 22-year-old recalled that she began ‘hyperventilating’ in disbelief rather than crying. Her boyfriend, Luke Benward wisely grabbed the unattached portion and they headed straight to the hospital.

At the hospital, Ariel said a nurse gave her the piece of her thumb back in a plastic bag, but she mistakenly threw it out, not knowing what was in the bag. “She actually just gave it to me in a plastic bag and didn’t tell me it was the tip of my thumb, too. So I accidentally threw it away,” she said. “And we had to go get it. It’s funny now.”

Luckily, the actress has a positive outlook on the situation.

“I mean, it’s the top of my thumb, it definitely hurt and it wasn’t fun and it was a good portion of it,” she said. “But at the same time, they took great care of me, I was bleeding a lot, but again, it’s my thumb. So many people are in there for so much worse.”
