The Hellenic Air Force celebrates Patron Saint Archangel Michael

An event to celebrate the patron saint of the Hellenic Air Force, Archangel Michael, took place at the Dekelia Air Base, in Athens on Sunday.

Greek Defence Minister Nikos Panagiotopoulos, Chief of the Greek General Staff General Konstantinos Floros, Chief of the General Staff of the Air Force Lieutenant General (I) George Blioumis, Chief of Hellenic Army General Staff Lieutenant General Charalampos Lalousis and Chief of the Hellenic Navy General Staff Vice Admiral Stylianos Petrakis, were among those present.

Hellenic Air Force

The Hellenic Air Force (HAF; Greek: Πολεμική Αεροπορία) is one of the three branches of the Hellenic Armed Forces. Its mission is to guard and protect Greek airspace, provide air assistance and support to the Hellenic Army and the Hellenic Navy and to provide humanitarian aid in Greece and around the world.

  1. Here is something controversial. Your senior military ranks are wrong. The Chief himself should always be a five star and the heads of each of the services should automatically be four stars. Smaller countries with weaker (in comparison) defence forces observe this higher level of rank for the senior most officers. Why shouldn’t HELLAS stand proud and boast that ours are THER BEST. Period.
