The Cypriot Foreign Minister Nikos Christodoulides contacted his Russian counterpart and discussed, among other things, the latest developments regarding the ongoing efforts aimed at resuming talks on the Cyprus issue.

According to a post on the official account of the Cypriot Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Twitter:
"Foreign Minister Nikos Christodoulides held a telephone conversation with his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov, discussing i.a. latest in relation to ongoing efforts aimed at resumption of negotiations on Cyprob, UNFICYP, Cyprus-Russia bilateral relations, EU-Russia relations & tourism prospects," the tweet said.

Russia has consistently backed Cyprus diplomatically against the Turkish occupation of the northern portion of the island.
