Movement for Change (KINAL) leader Fofi Gennimata said she was pulling out of the December electoral race for the party leadership following the deterioration of her health, she said on Tuesday, after being admitted in hospital on Monday night.

“The deterioration of my state of health that demands hospitalization and management obliges me to end my electoral run as candidate for the presidency of Movement of Change,” she said in a statement.

“As president, until the new leadership and later as a deputy, my priority will remain the unity and future of the party,” the KINAL leader added.

According to a hospital statement on Tuesday, Gennimata was admitted on Monday evening with subileus symptoms.

“Following extensive tests, it was determined that the condition is due to a relapse of her basic illness,” the hospital said earlier.

Gennimata, who is one of four candidates for party leadership, has spoken openly to the media about her experience with cancer.
