The Wham! hit-makers headstone is inscribed with his real name, Georgios Kyriacos Panayiotou as reported by the Sun
A message reads: “Beloved Son, Brother, Friend.”
George was found dead, aged 53, on Christmas Day 2016 at his home in Goring-on-Thames, Oxon.
Sister Melanie, who died aged 59 three years to the day later, lies on the other side of Mum Lesley in Highgate Cemetery, North London.
Although George Michael may no longer be with us, his generous spirit lives on through his legacy. One way his kindness continues to be felt is through his estate’s ongoing donations to various causes, in keeping with his wishes.
One particularly touching gesture is his role as the anonymous benefactor behind the annual Christmas lights and decorations in Highgate, London. George’s deep affection for the area where he lived for many years and is now buried is well-known. Since his passing in 2016, his estate has funded this beloved holiday tradition, ensuring that the festive display continues in his honour.
For over a decade, George lived in a Grade II listed building in Highgate, from 2002 until his death, making the area a meaningful part of his life and legacy. This heartfelt contribution is just one example of how George Michael’s generosity and connection to his community remain a lasting part of his story.
