Greek National Defense Minister Nikos Panagiotopoulos and chief of the Armed Forces, General Konstantinos Floros, expressed their best wishes over the nameday of Saint George, patron saint of the Hellenic Army, which also falls on Easter Monday.
In a post on Facebook, the minister expressed his best wishes to army officers and soldiers.
General Floros also added in a Facebook account that St. George is honored as an ideal symbol of valor and self-sacrifice, and expressed his best wishes to all namesakes and the Army staff for guarding Greece “with great courage and decisiveness.”
In a separate tweet that included a video message, Foreign Affairs Minister Nikos Dendias also expressed best wishes for the namesakes of the saint and to officers and soldiers in the Greek army and the infantry “for guarding on a daily basis Greece’s territorial integrity, on behalf of their protector St. George.”
Panagiotopoulos also left his own comment on Twitter, commenting that St. George is “the Trophy Bearer of the Greek Army.”
