Greek Tourism Minister to zoom in for chat with Greek Australians

Greek Tourism Minister Mr Vassilis Kikilias is scheduled for a zoom conference this week with the Greek Australian community where he will talk about the link between trade and tourism and how important it is for Greece, noting its contribution to the Greek economy.

The Minister is expected to outline strategies that support traditional and dynamic branches of business activity and efforts which are being made at the same time to attract new investments in key sectors of the Greek economy which will give impetus to tourism, as well as to strengthen infrastructure and preserve the quality of the offered tourist product associated with the country’s carrying capacity.

Lastly, the Minister will discuss the importance of EU and national recovery funds that will go into
crucial infrastructure projects, including destination management initiatives, the development of
mountain tourism, agro-tourism, wellness and health tourism, gastronomy, port and marina upgrades,
and works that will ensure visitor accessibility.

Coordinated  by Katia Gkikiza, Trade Commissioner of Greece in Australia, the Consulate General of Greece in Sydney, and Paul Nicolaou, Executive Director, Business Sydney,  the event will take place Wednesday, 25 May, 2022 and is open to all interested parties.

Vassilis Kikilias is the Minister for Tourism of Greece. Prior to his post he served as Minister for Health
(2019-2021) and Minister for Public Order and Citizen Protection (2014-2015). He is an elected
member of the Greek Parliament since 2012.

Vassilis Kikilias was born in Athens in 1974 and is an orthopaedic surgeon with a PhD from the
Medical School of the University of Athens. As a professional basketball player, he has played for
Panionios BC, AEK BC and the Greek National Team. He is married and has one son.
