The Greek duo triumphed in the final against Sweden's Blomdahl / Nilsson in the scotch double (tie-break) after a sensational performance, which is expected to remain unsurpassed for many years after the Greeks made 14 carambolas in a row (with a maximum possible number of 15) to ceremoniously secure the gold medal.

Overall, the performance of Nikos Polychronopoulos in the team was amazing, as he clearly beat all the stars of European billiards, while Kostas Kokkoris was unerring in the decisive tiebreaks.
