ATHENS: 22-year-old Palestinian charged after raising Palestine flag on light pole in Syntagma Square

A 22-year-old Palestinian has been arrested for raising the flag of Palestine on Sunday on a light pole in front of Parliament House in Athens and allegedly breaking Article 141 of the Criminal Code.

Police announcement: "Early today, Tuesday, November 7, 2023, a 22-year-old Palestinian national, who appears in a video circulating on social media raising his country's flag during a rally in Syntagma Square on Sunday, November 5, 2023, was identified and arrested. A criminal case was filed against him, while the State Security Sub-Directorate of the Attica Security Directorate is conducting a preliminary investigation."

According to police, the Palestinian is accused of breaching Article 141 of the Criminal Code.

Article 141: "Whoever, with their intention and by any actions, exposes the Greek state or its ally or their residents to the risk of reprisals or exposes to the risk of disrupting friendly relations of the Greek state or its ally with a foreign state, shall be punished by imprisonment of three months to three years. If the retaliation actually occurred because of their actions, they can be punished by at least three years in prison."
